iPad Initiative

In the fifth year of a pilot Educational Technology Initiative, Williams Elementary Outreach is successfully partnering with teachers in the North Adams, MA, School District to integrate iPads into classroom teaching and learning.  After receiving thirteen iPads in 2012 from a Verizon grant for use in Brayton and Greylock Elementary Schools, Williams College matched the donation with thirteen more.  Students in Kindergarten through seventh grades have used iPads to document and record experiments in Science classes, to practice and refine their math skills, to learn basic coding languages, to create original projects in Social Studies, Art, and Music, and to meet and learn about students in other schools around the world.

Teachers are discovering the powerful potential iPads bring to the 21st century classroom.  Used together with existing classroom tools, iPads provide new and previously inconceivable ways to motivate students, differentiate learning, and connect with resources and people around the world.  The Williams Elementary Outreach iPad Initiative aims to support North Adams teachers as they develop methods and instruction that will leverage the iPads as integral classroom tools and help prepare students for success in an increasingly digital world.
